Components
A component (i.e., a component instance) is a group of objects (e.g., pins, vias, primitives, et cetera.) on a layer that constitute a chip or RLC. When a component is created, a definition for it is created in the Project Tree > Definitions > Components folder.
From the Layout Editor, the borders of the component appear as a box that encloses all the component’s members. Click+drag the bounding box to move the component. Individual members of the component cannot be moved individually. Once a component is created, the positions of its members are frozen in relation to one another.
You can add or remove entities from components. When you do, the component’s border shifts accordingly. The component’s definition can change because component models are partially defined by the number of pins they contain. If the number of pins changes, then a new definition is created.
To highlight a component, either select the reference designation of a component in the Components window or click+drag the cursor over the components.
When a component’s bounding box is highlighted, all members of the component are also highlighted. If an entity in the component is not highlighted, then that entity is not a member of the component.
An active component can be moved within a hierarchical design to a higher or lower position within the global Coordinate System (CS). Refer to Component Placement in HFSS 3D Layout.
