Convergence problems in static nonlinear implicit finite element (FE) analyses can arise in any FE solver. The reason for convergence problems is often simply that finding static equilibrium in a nonlinear FE analysis is difficult when considering contacts, material nonlinearities (possibly including material failure), and large deformations.
Troubleshooting involves finding and fixing the underlining reason(s) for convergence problems. This chapter presents tips for how to identify and circumvent convergence problems in an implicit analysis in LS-DYNA.
The following topics are available:
These troubleshooting tips are also presented in the webinar [24]. Tips on general model checking can be found in [25]. Appendix P of the Keyword Manual Vol. I also addresses convergence troubleshooting.
If you continue to experience problems, contact your local supplier of the Ansys LS-DYNA software.
