When an Ansys HPC Platform Services server is set up, it will have evaluators connected to it. Evaluators are agents running on compute resources which render those compute resources available for simulation work. Compute resources may be single machines or clusters.
Evaluators pull and run pending compute tasks from the Ansys HPC Job Manager.
Before an evaluator can pull a task, it must be assigned to at least one project. Additionally, it must have the minimum hardware requirements set by the configuration of the project with the pending task. For example, the application, version, cores, and memory requirements set by the project must be met by an evaluator's configuration.
By default, evaluators can pull tasks from any active project. However, you can assign a specific project to an evaluator if desired.
All Ansys software installed on an evaluator is available to the Ansys HPC Platform Services server by default. However, you can configure which software to make available on an evaluator.
In the Ansys HPC Job Manager web app, you can use the Resources page to display a list of compute resources that are connected to Ansys HPC Platform Services and see details such as their status, project assignments, and running tasks.
An Evaluator View option provides an overview of evaluators and their configuration (cores, memory, disk space, and so on) as well as a plot of running evaluator tasks. Opening an evaluator provides an in-depth view of that evaluator's activity, logging, and properties.
