Creating Conformal Mesh Using Merge Tools

You can create conformal mesh between bodies by first meshing the bodies, or parts, separately and then assembling the blocks together using Merge Blockings and/or the Merge tool.

  • Merge Blockings: If parts are meshed separately, each part will have a Blocking object in the Structure tree. If you select two or more such Blocking objects in the Structure tree, and then RMB > Merge Blockings, the software will do two things:

    • It will combine all the blocks under the two or more separate blocking objects into a single Blocking object.
    • It will attempt to merge together those interfaces that are close to one another.

After using Merge Blockings, you should use the Mesh Display options for Edges and Faces connectivity to help visualize the connected regions after meshing.

  • Merge tool: If all vertices of a face are paired and merged with similar vertices on an adjacent face, the interface will become common to both attached blocks. See Merging block volumes, surfaces or vertices.
