6.11. Viewing Curvature Change

A significant curvature change means that the part had a large bending moment in a local area. Use the curvature diagram to display mean curvature, gaussian curvature, x-curvature, and y-curvature during each operation of the forming process; as well as the difference between the x- or y-curvature of the current operation compared to the curvature at the start of the operation. Choose Curvature from the Analysis Ribbon Elements to display the Curvature task panel and display a plot of bending moment change in the Graphics Window.

Use the Curvature task panel to select individual operations to view, or to play an animation of the forming process. A legend along the right edge of the Graphics Window displays the curvature change value of each color used in the plot.

Select a Component from the list to display that component's values on the plot. Available components are:

  • Mean curvature

  • Gaussian curvature

  • Curvature in the X or Y axis only

  • X or Y curvature difference with the initial state of the current operation

Click List Value to use the List Value Task Panel to pick points to display the numerical thinning values at those points on the plot.

Click Contour Setting to use the Contour Setting Task Panel to modify the settings of the thinning plot.

When you are finished with the thinning plot, click the Close button to return to Viewing Basic Deformation Results.
