1.2. Opening a File

You can use Ansys Viewer to open the following types of files:

You can select one or multiple files to open.

You can open files in Ansys Viewer in one of the following ways:

  • Click   on the viewer toolbar. Then, in the Open dialog box, select the desired .avz, .avzm, .scdoc or .arz file(s) and click Open.

To open a remote file instead of a local one, enter the URL of the file in the File name edit box (for example, http://servername/folder/file.avz).

  • Drag and drop the file(s) into the viewer window from your desktop.

  • In a file explorer, double-click the file. If this does not work, you may need to associate the file type with the ANSYSViewer.exe file located at \Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v242\ANSYSViewer.

  • Open a command prompt in the ANSYS Viewer installation directory (for example, C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v242\ANSYSViewer), then issue the command ANSYSViewer.exe followed by the path or URL of the file. This will launch ANSYS Viewer and open the specified file upon launch.

For example, to launch a local file, you would enter a command similar to the following:

    ANSYSViewer.exe C:\folder\file.avz

To launch a remote file, you would enter a URL instead of a local file path:

    ANSYSViewer.exe http://servername/folder/file.avz

Once you have opened a file in Ansys Viewer, you can keep opening files using any of the methods described above.

Files are listed on the context-sensitive Select File menu for subsequent access. See Selecting a File to View. If you have opened multiple files at the same time, you can view them in sequence using the navigation bar. See Viewing a Sequence of Files.

If you want to view multiple files simultaneously, you can display up to four view windows in the viewing area. See Displaying Multiple View Windows.

Note:  Some SpaceClaim .scdoc files may contain newer types of data that are currently unsupported by Ansys Viewer. Such files cannot be opened in Ansys Viewer.

Opening an Ansys Viewer Archive (.avzm) File

Ansys Viewer Archive (.avzm) files contain multiple Ansys Viewer (.avz) files. You can open an .avzm file in Ansys Viewer using any of the methods described above in Opening a File.

When you open an .avzm archive file in Ansys Viewer, the first .avz file in the archive will be loaded in the view window. A navigation bar will be displayed below the view window, enabling you to view the other .avz files in the archive (see Viewing a Sequence of Files).

All .avz files in the archive will also be listed on the context-sensitive Select File menu. You can then use the Select File menu to open the other files when desired. See Selecting a File to View.

Note:  When viewing .avz files that are part of an .avzm archive file, you cannot save any of the .avz files locally.
