Configuring an Oscillator

This procedure shows you how to configure an oscillator to change the waveform shape and adjust the duty cycle and gain.

You can configure an additive synthesis oscillator using the following options from the OSCILLATOR panel in the Oscillator settings window:

  1. Under Waveform, you can select from Sine , Triangle , and Square waveforms.
  2. Click the Duty cycle field to open the Value window. This allows you to change the value using a slider or by direct entry into the input field and to observe the effect of these changes on the waveform shape in the selection buttons (above). The effect of the Duty cycle value is dependent on the oscillator Waveform type, as follows:
    • For a Sine oscillator it has no effect.
    • For a Triangle oscillator it adjusts the ratio of rise time to total waveform period.
    • For a Square oscillator it adjusts the ratio of pulse width to total waveform period.
Note: You can configure a sawtooth waveform by selecting the Triangle oscillator type and setting the Duty cycle close to 0 or 1.
  3. Click the Gain field to open the Value window and adjust the overall gain (in dB) of this oscillator.
  4. Click the Mute and Solo buttons to mute this oscillator or listen to it in isolation, respectively.
  5. For information, you can see a display of the instantaneous values of Gain (dB) and Frequency (Hz) for this oscillator
Note: The oscillator configuration is saved when Saving a Preset.
