Using the Locate Material Tool

The following page helps you use the different options of the Locate Material tool.

To use the Locate Material tool:

  1. In the Light Simulation tab, click to open the Locate Material tool.
  2. In the 3D view, click Search for applied material to activate the Locate Material tool.

According to the Visualization options defined, either all materials applied on geometries are highlighted in the scene and/or geometries with no material are highlighted, or nothing is highlighted.

For more information on the color code, refer to Understanding the Locate Material Tool.

  3. Once activated, you can:
    • Select a material in the tree to highlight the geometries on which the material is applied.
    • Click a geometry in the 3D view or in the Structure tree to highlight all geometries using the same material.

Tip: If you want to highlight the materials applied on a geometry without using/opening the Locate Material tool, right-click a geometry and click Locate Material.
    • Mouse over a geometry to display the corresponding material applied.

    • Double-click a geometry to select its material in the Speos tree.
    • Triple-click a geometry in the 3D view to open the definition of the material.

This action exits the Locate Material tool. Closing the definition mode resumes the Local Material tool.

    • Select one or several materials in the Speos tree and click to select their associated geometries.

The associated geometries are selected and highlighted in the 3D view and in the Structure tree.

Tip: If you want to select geometries without using/opening the Locate Material tool, right-click a material (or a selection of materials) and click Select associated geometries.
    • Click to select the geometries without material.

Tip: Create a Named Selection to group these geometries and apply adequate materials.
    • Select a geometry, then use [CTRL + left-click] on a material in the tree, then click Apply material to geometry in the 3D view.

If a material is already applied on the element(s) on which you want to apply the selected material, a prompt message asks you if you want to replace it. Click OK to replace the material.
