Assigning a material in Teamcenter

In an integrated Teamcenter/NX environment, you can use MI Materials Gateway to assign materials to NX part models while working in Teamcenter. The material assignment contains up-to-date values of material properties (such as density), and includes a consistent, traceable link back to the source record in the Granta MI database.

When you make an assignment, it is automatically saved to your local copy of the NX part model, but the change is not uploaded to Teamcenter immediately. You can choose to save your changes to Teamcenter at any time.

  1. Right-click a Teamcenter item that represents an NX assembly or part model, and select Send To > MI Materials Gateway.
  2. Make sure that the bodies you want to assign to are selected in the assignments panel (the lower half of the MI Materials Gateway window).
  3. In the upper half of the MI Materials Gateway window, find a material to assign.
  4. Double-click the material to assign it.
Tip: If alternate assignments are enabled, you can right-click and select Assign as new alternate to add it to the material library instead. See Assigning alternate materials.
  5. When you have finished making assignments, click Save changes (in the title bar of the Assignments panel) to save your NX part model to Teamcenter.
Note: This triggers a revision of the Part item.
Tip: If changes cannot be saved to Teamcenter (for example, because the connection to the Teamcenter server has been lost), you can find a copy of the NX part file with your current assignments in the local application data on your Teamcenter client machine.

You can use the assignments panel to view and manage the Granta MI materials that are currently assigned.

To remove a material that has been assigned, right-click and select Remove > Material. This deletes the material assignment from the body in the NX part model, and also removes it from the Part object in Teamcenter.
