Assigning a material in Creo

You can use MI Materials Gateway to assign Granta materials to your part model in Creo Parametric. The material assigned to the part contains up-to-date values of material properties (such as density), and includes a consistent, traceable link back to the source record in the Granta database.

When you are working in Creo, Gateway assigns materials to either parts or bodies, depending on how your Creo application is configured.

  • If assignment to bodies ('multi-body assignment' or 'multi-material assignment') is enabled in Creo, Gateway assigns materials to bodies. The Assignments panel shows parts with their bodies.

Note: Assignment of materials to bodies in Creo is enabled if the Creo Parametric option enable_multi_material_model is set to 'yes'. For more information, see the documentation for your version of Creo.
  • If assignment to bodies is not enabled in Creo, Gateway assigns materials to parts. The Assignments panel shows parts only, without bodies.
Important:
  • If you assign Granta MI materials to a Creo part model, do not assign Creo library materials within the same part model.

If you assign a Creo library material to replace a Granta MI material, the links to the Granta MI material may not be fully removed, possibly leading to later conflicts.

  • When Creo Parametric is configured to assign to bodies, be aware of the following limitations.
    • Synchronization of body-level assignments from Windchill to Creo is not supported.
    • If you are working with parts managed as Family Tables, synchronization of body-level assignments from Creo to Windchill is only supported for generics.
