Assigning a material in NX

Use MI Materials Gateway to assign Granta MI materials to bodies in your NX part model. The material assignment contains up-to-date values of material properties (such as density), and includes a consistent, traceable link back to the source record in the Granta MI database.

The quickest way to make assignments is by right-clicking in the NX part model.
Note: You can also assign materials when you are viewing the full assembly for your current work part.
  1. Right-click one or more parts in NX, and choose MI Materials Gateway.
  2. Make sure that the bodies you want to assign to are selected in the assignments panel (the lower half of the MI Materials Gateway window).
  3. In the upper half of the MI Materials Gateway window, find a material to assign.
  4. Double-click the material to assign it.
Tip: If alternate assignments are enabled, you can right-click and select Assign as new alternate to add it to the material library instead. See Assigning alternate materials.
  5. To make another assignment, change your part selection in NX and then click Refresh .
Tip: For faster switching between your CAD model and the Assignments panel, go to Settings > Preferences and select Always on top.

You can use the assignments panel to view and manage the Granta MI materials that are currently assigned.

Note: The assignments panel will look slightly different, depending on whether you are viewing a selection of components, or the full assembly for your current work part.

To remove a material that has been assigned, right-click and select Remove > Material. This deletes the material from the body in NX.
