Adding a Capacitor

A capacitor is an electronic component used to store charge.

To add a capacitor:

  1. Click Home. From the Circuit Elements box, click the Add Capacitor icon (Add Capacitor icon).
  2. Click the location where you want to place the capacitor.
  3. Drag the mouse to an appropriate length and direction.
  4. Click to finish drawing.
  5. You have drawn a capacitor, but still need to assign it values such as capacitance, parasitic inductance, and parasitic resistance.

When you finish drawing the capacitor, the Select layers for capacitor terminals window appears.

  6. From the Positive Terminal Resides on Layer list, select the layer for the positive end.
  7. From the Negative Terminal Resides on Layer list, select the layer for the negative end.
  8. Click OK.
  9. The Set Capacitor Parameters window appears.

  10. From the Name field, type a name for the capacitor.
  11. From the Part Number field, type the manufacturer's part number.
  12. From the Capacitance field, enter a value in Farads.
  13. From the Parasitic Inductance field, enter a value in Henries.
  14. From the Parasitic Resistance field, enter a value in Ohms.
  15. Click OK.
  16. You have now added and assigned values to your capacitor. You can also edit the parameters.
