14.11. Strain Wave Gear

A Strain Wave Gear is used in a drive system for a robot that requires precise control. It consists of a circular spline, flexspline and Oldham coupler including a wave generator. A Strain Wave Gear has a unique operating principle based on the elastic mechanics of a flexspline to accomplish very accurate transmission, minimal backlash and a high reduction ratio.

The Strain Wave Gear entity in the Motion Drivetrain toolkit automates the creation of constraints and contacts between parts, ball placing, and entity creation between balls and ball separators based on the basic information of the model and the bodies imported into the Drivetrain subsystem.
