6.5.2. Matrix Properties

Force parameters such as spring and damping coefficients and connecting properties such as the acting and reacting bodies, and the locations and the orientation on the bodies are defined in the Matrix property dialog as shown in the figure and table below.

1. TypeN/AUse to select a type for calculation of Matrix force. When Standard Matrix Force is selected, the force is calculated from the specified matrices. When User Subroutine Matrix Force is selected, the six forces must be returned by the specified User Subroutine. For more information about user subroutines, refer to Matrix Force User Subroutine.N/A
2. Matrix of Stiffness Coefficient Description of parameters in the Matrix property dialog Use to set a 6 by 6 stiffness matrix.

Viscous Damping Coefficient
3. Ratio Description of parameters in the Matrix property dialog

Use to select a method to determine the damping force. When Ratio is selected, the proportional damping ratio can be defined with constant values or a predefined Design Variable. The resultant 6-by-6 damping matrix is calculated from the stiffness matrix as follows.

When Matrix is selected, the damping coefficient matrix can be defined directly in 6-by-6 format. For more information about these parameters, refer to Matrix Force.
