2.4. Interrupting a Calculation

To interrupt the calculation in an interactive FENSAP-ICE session, click Stop in the Execution graphics window. This displays a prompt, asking if you would like to stop or kill the calculations.

You can select from the following options:

  • Stop: Stops the calculation at the next point where data can be safely stored for later use. This is similar to the Interrupt option from Workbench.

  • Kill: Stops the calculation immediately without concern for whether data associated with the current action can be stored. This is similar to the Abort option from Workbench.

To interrupt an ongoing FENSAP-ICE calculation from Workbench, click the icon in the Progress pane (see Progress Pane for more details). This displays a prompt, asking if you would like to interrupt or stop the calculations.

You can select from the following options:

  • Interrupt: Stops the calculation at the next point where data can be safely stored for later use.

  • Abort: Stops the calculation immediately without concern for whether data associated with the current action can be stored.

Important:  When the calculation is interrupted from within an interactive FENSAP-ICE session, it always stops the data at the next point where data can be safely stored for later use.

When a calculation is interrupted, the state of the Solution (Flow/Droplets/Ice) cell becomes Interrupted, Update Required. If a background calculation is interrupted, FENSAP-ICE writes the solution and output files and then closes.

If you interrupt a calculation, review the results, and decide that the solution is converged, you can force the Solution (Flow/Droplets/Ice) cell state to be Up-to-Date by right-clicking the Solution cell and selecting the Accept Interrupted Solution as Up-to-Date command from the context menu.

Caution:  The current options available to interrupt and abort a FENSAP-ICE calculation are not fully stable and not all options function accordingly. The only option available to safely stop a FENSAP-ICE calculation is using the Interrupt option from Workbench`s Progress pane. This will cautiously stop the current cell calculation after completing the total number of iterations specified and the action will not carry out the next cell update. When you interrupt a calculation, the state of the cell becomes Up-to-Date.
