Converting Contacts in Contact Review

When reviewing contacts, you can convert a contact to permanently bonded or exclude the contact so it will no longer be automatically included in the simulation. Additionally, you can convert the automatically generated bonded pair(s) to a sliding contact or to a joint. Discovery then removes that contact from the current contact group and adds it as an individual contact, contact group, or joint in the physics tree. If multiple contact pairs are selected for conversion to a sliding contact, they are grouped into a new contact group in the physics tree.

  1. Select one or more contacts you want to convert to manual contacts. The HUD displays the number of bonded contacts selected.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click Convert to sliding to convert the contact to a sliding contact. If only one contact is selected, an individual contact is added to the physics tree. If more than one is selected, a new contact group is added to the physics tree.
    • Click Exclude from contact detection to ensure the contact is no longer automatically detected.
    • Click Convert to joint to convert the contact to a joint. Each contact is converted and added as an individual joint in the physics tree.
    • For contact groups other than the Bonded Contacts (default) group, click Convert to permanently bonded to ensure the contact is always recognized as a bonded contact.
