Importing an External CAD Part

The following procedure helps you import an external CAD part from a CAD software into Speos.

To import an external CAD part:

  1. In Speos, in the Assembly tab, click Geometry Update .
  2. In the 3D view, select Import External CAD Part .
You can import CATIA V5 files (*.CATPart, *.CATProduct), CREO Parametric files (*.prt, *.xpr, *.asm, *.xas), NX files (*.prt), SolidWorks files (*.sldprt, *.sldasm).
  3. Choose the CAD part and click Open.
    • If the file you want to import is located under .\Speos Input files\, then the Last known file source will be stored with a relative path.
    • Only for *.CATPart file: if the file you want to import is not located under .\Speos Input files\, then the file is copied in .\Speos Input files\ only if the option Automatically copy selected files under document's folder is activated in the Speos preferences.
    • If the file you want to import is an assembly (*.CATProduct, *.asm, *.prt, *.sldasm) and not located in .\Speos Input files\, then the file is not copied in .\Speos Input files\, and the file path remains absolute.

To check the Last known file source, right-click the imported component and select Properties.

The CAD part is imported into Speos.
Optical Properties and Speos features can now be applied and created to define the optical system.
