Geometry Update Overview

The Geometry Update tool allows you to update your design while keeping its link to Speos dependencies.

Geometrical models used for optical simulation often need to be adjusted throughout the design process, to meet manufacturing requirements for example.

The Geometry Update tool allows you to update your design while keeping its link to Speos dependencies. The modified design or parts of it can be re-imported into Speos as many times as you need without having to re-apply Speos features to it.

This tool offers a design and testing flexibility as it takes better consideration of the standard design process.

General Workflow

Important: Make sure that the SpaceClaim Reader is activated.
  1. The Design team creates geometries in a CAD software.

  2. The Speos team uses the Geometry Update tool to import the geometries from the CAD software to Speos.

    Files that can be imported: CATIA V5 files (*.CATPart, *.CATProduct), CREO Parametric files (*.prt, *.xpr, *.asm, *.xas), NX files (*.prt), SolidWorks files (*.sldprt, *.sldasm).

  3. The Speos team defines the optical properties thanks to the Speos Light Simulation features.
  4. The Design team modifies the geometry in the CAD software.

  5. The Speos team uses Geometry Update tool to update the project to work on the latest data.

    When geometries are updated, the link is maintained between Speos features and the newly imported geometries. Materials are still applied on the geometries, sources are adjusted to the faces of the new geometries etc.

Geometry Update Tool

The Geometry Update tool is accessible from the Assembly tab.

  • Import External CAD Part allows you to import a new external part. The part is by default imported in the active part of the document.

  • Select all Imported Parts allows you to select specific parts you want to replace with another model.

  • Update External CAD Part allows you to select the newer version of a part previously imported in Speos.

Limitations

A named selection created out of geometries imported with the Geometries Update tool may not detect geometry modifications applied in the external CAD part after updating this external CAD part. Therefore, the modified geometry of the named selection is not updated in SpaceClaim.
