Configuring standard names
Standard names can be defined in the database for attributes and record link groups. Standard names are used to identify attribute values for records, and identify related records that are linked in the database.
Standard names can be defined in a Granta database schema in order to provide a consistent way of referring to a property (such as Density) that may be represented by one or more attributes within the database, or a relationship (such as ‘Compatible with’) that may be represented by one or more record link groups. You can map all of the relevant attributes or record link groups to the standard name, which can then be used to refer to all of the mapped attributes or record link groups collectively.
- To identify attribute values for records – for example, when assigning or importing data, or displaying attribute data in MI Materials Gateway.
- To identify related records that are linked in the database – for example, processes that are compatible with a material, or simulation records that provide an alternative representation of a material.
If you enable assignment of Processes, Surface Treatments, or Colors, you must ensure that the standard names required to identify these related records are configured.
If you are using a hub-and-spoke data model, you must ensure that the standard names required to identify the links between CAD Materials and Simulation Records are configured. (See Data models for storing simulation data.)
