In NX, you can use MI Materials Gateway to assign materials to assemblies or part
models.
You can start MI Materials Gateway from NX in two different ways. These give you
access to different features, and a different view in the Assignments panel.
-
To view a hierarchical BoM for the assembly that is your current work part in
NX, click MI Materials Gateway in the main NX
toolbar.
- Using MI Materials Gateway in BoM mode enables you to view the full
assembly and its assignments as a hierarchical structure, and analyze it using dashboards and reports.
Tip: To focus on an individual sub-assembly, part, or
body within the BoM, you can right-click it in the Assignments panel and
select Activate component. (This
may be useful if you want to view a dashboard or report for that
component only.) To return to the full assembly, right-click and
select Activate root component.
- If reference sets are defined in NX, the bodies shown for each part in
BoM mode are filtered by the reference set that is currently active in
NX for that part.
Note: Your administrator may have configured MI Materials Gateway
to prevent you from viewing assemblies in BoM mode. If BoM mode is disabled,
clicking MI Materials Gateway in the NX toolbar
displays your current selection in List mode. If you don't have anything
selected in NX, the current work part is displayed in List mode (with
bodies, but without any sub-assemblies or parts).
-
To view selected parts (with bodies), right-click in your NX part model and
select MI Materials Gateway.
- Using MI Materials Gateway in List mode enables you to focus on one or
more specific components from anywhere in your Assembly Navigator, Part
Navigator, or model geometry. (This may be useful when working with very
large BoMs.) However, you can't view dashboards and reports while in
List mode, or export assignments to a file.
- If reference sets are defined in NX, you can use the
Reference set menu to choose a reference set to
view in List mode. This filters the bodies shown for all parts in the
assignments panel.
Tip:
To switch to another part, change your selection in NX and click
Refresh to update the Assignments
panel.
To switch to BoM mode, click MI Materials Gateway
in the toolbar, and then click
Refresh.
You can use MI Materials Gateway to find and assign materials from your Granta MI
database.
Tip: If you are in an integrated Teamcenter / NX environment
where NX part models are stored in Teamcenter, you may also be able to assign
materials in Teamcenter using MI Materials Gateway. See
Teamcenter with NX.
