Using Resources
A project space can provide access to the following types of resources:
Virtual desktop. A virtual desktop is a computer that you access over the Internet. It has the functionality of a physical computer but is not tied to a physical machine. It functions as a virtual computer system with its own CPU, memory, network interface, and permanent storage. When you connect to a virtual desktop in Ansys Gateway powered by AWS, a remote desktop session is launched. During the session you use applications as if they were installed locally. See Launching a Virtual Desktop Session.
HPC cluster. An HPC cluster consists of several compute nodes that are networked together with high-speed interconnect, and share access to fast temporary storage. A cluster enables you to process large amounts of data and achieve complex calculations with high performance. See Submitting a Job to an HPC Cluster.
Note that standard HPC clusters can only be created in project spaces that support 2024 R1 or older releases.
Autoscaling cluster. An autoscaling cluster is a special type of HPC cluster. Rather than having a set number of nodes, it automatically adjusts its size according to workload demand. See Submitting a Job to an Autoscaling Cluster.
Note that autoscaling clusters can only be created in project spaces that support 2024 R2 or newer releases.
File storage server. A file storage server is a virtual machine created specifically for storing shared data. When a shared folder is made accessible to a project space, you can see the folder in the file system of virtual machines that you access in that project space. For more information, see Storage in the Administration Guide.
Note that file storage servers can only be created in project spaces that support 2024 R1 or older releases.
The resources available in a project space and the way in which you interact with each one depends on how the project space is configured.
