Ansys medini analyze is licensed under local node locked or network floating licenses. The tool pulls floating licenses from a license server, while a node locked license is stored on your PC.
You can manage floating licenses on your own server, or use the Ansys Shared Web Licensing server.
For detailed information about Ansys licensing, see the online "Licensing" guides in the Ansys Help Portal.
Note: Ansys medini analyze has different license suites which bundle certain features: Pro, Premium, Cybersecurity Pro, Enterprise, Semiconductor Enterprise, DC Configurator, and SAM Enterprise. The Connectivity Package can be used in conjunction with the Pro licenses.
For more details about the types of licenses offered by Ansys, contact Ansys sales or our support team.
With the SAM Enterprise license, you have access to the basic safety features of medini analyze. You can:
Open all diagrams and tables in editors (read-only)
Edit checklist entries in existing checklist models
Create SysML models, and import SysML models from SAM
For FMEDA/DC:
In worksheets, change Safety Mechanisms and diagnostic coverage fields
In coverage pages, activate or deactivate Safety Mechanisms
Recompute failure rates
Execute scripts
Change the mission time for fault trees and reliability block diagrams and (re)compute the probability
Evaluate fault trees and store the resulting cut set analysis model
The first time you launch Ansys medini analyze, you need to configure your license. Note that you can open the License preferences dialog from medini analyze at any time to make changes to your license settings.
To configure your license in medini analyze, complete these steps.
Launch medini analyze.
Note: If no license is configured or an error occurred, an error dialog appears.
Click in the error dialog to provide the license that is valid for the version you are using.
The application displays the license preferences.
If the License preferences dialog does not open, navigate to > > .
In the License preferences dialog, provide your license details.
If you have a node locked license, click to navigate to the license file and select it.
The license location appears in the text field.
If you are using a floating license, you must provide the address of the license server. This is the machine where the license manager is running. Click the link to access the licensing tool and enter your information.
For floating licenses, license settings are saved to an INI file on your PC. Each installed version of medini analyze has its own license settings in a separate INI file.
After selecting a license file or adding your license information in the licensing utility, click the button or the button.
If requested by medini analyze, restart the tool.
Ansys medini analyze checks that the floating license you specified is available. The status is shown in the License preferences dialog in the column.
A green background in a checked cell indicates a valid license. The expiration date (if any) and the end of the current maintenance period (if included) are shown in the respective columns.
A red background indicates that the license could not be retrieved. It may be blocked by another user or expired or otherwise unavailable.
The white background in a cell in the column is only used for the dependent Connectivity Package.
Note: The Connectivity Package is automatically checked if it is contained in a suite (from Premium on). If you use a Pro license, you can check or clear the Connectivity Package separately, depending on whether you want to use it (but only if it is included in the given license).
Note that if your license server is configured with multiple different license suites, medini analyze defaults to the license model with the most features. You can use the check boxes in the column to specify your preferred license. After clicking the or button, the tool tries to obtain the licenses which are checked and to release the licenses which are unchecked.
After you have successfully configured your license, medini analyze is ready to run. If no license can be obtained, the tool runs in read-only mode and projects can only be browsed. Note that you can always use the above procedure to install a different license or to modify the connection to the license server.
You can manage floating licenses on your own PC or server, or use the Ansys Shared Web Licensing server.
Ansys medini analyze supports floating licenses that are stored on an Ansys license server. For more information, see the Installation and Licensing information on the Ansys Customer Portal.
Instead of managing licenses on your own licensing server, you can use the Ansys License Server.
To access the licensing settings on the Ansys License Server, complete these steps.
In medini analyze, navigate to > > .
In the License dialog, click the Licensing Utility link.
In the Licensing Settings dialog, under Web Licensing, click Shared.
For more information about Ansys Shared Web Licensing, see the following links in the Ansys Help portal.

If a license cannot be obtained or is lost during operation, for example due to a lost network connection, the tool behaves as follows:
License is not available at tool startup: If the tool is started without a proper license configuration or without a connection to the license server, the tool opens the license configuration dialog. You can fix the problem by filling in the dialog as described in License Configuration.
License is lost during tool operation: If a license is lost during the operation of the tool, for example due to a network error, the tool detects it after a certain period of time. When a license is lost, the tool functionality is restricted to the functionality that is still licensed. Note that you can save project data before the tool switches into read-only mode.
If either of the above behaviors occurs, make sure the required licenses are available and are registered in the tool. For floating licenses, also make sure that the license server is connected.
The Ansys License Manager supports license borrowing, as well as roaming for shared web licensing. For more information, see the Licensing Guide provided with the Ansys License Manager installation. Or find guides online at https://ansyshelp.ansys.com/ under "Licensing".
