Value1..Value4

The semantic labels for Value1, Value2, Value3 and Value4 as well as their descriptions and default/range values depend on the Keyword setting.

Notes

The SECMODIF command is divided into these types: Pretension, Joints, Shells, Beams, Pipes, Links, and Reinforcing.

For a specified pretension section, SECMODIF either modifies the normal, or changes the name of the surface.

For joint sections associated with penalty-based joint elements, SECMODIF modifies the penalty factors of a previously defined joint section.

For shell, beam, pipe, link, and reinforcing sections, SECMODIF modifies a property of previously defined sections based on Item and Value. The Value field does not allow blank input. Input 0 for zero value.

The SECOFFSET and SECCONTROL commands include limitations for specific element types and the SECMODIF command must not be used for this unsupported section data. See SECOFFSET and SECCONTROL for more details.

Pretension

If Keyword = NORM, command format is:

SECID

Unique section number. This number must already be assigned to a section.

NORM

NX, NY, NZ

The individual normal components to modify.

KCN

Coordinate system number: 0 = global Cartesian, 1 = global cylindrical), 2 = global spherical, 4 = working plane), 5 = global Y axis cylindrical, or n = an arbitrary reference number assigned to a coordinate system.

If Keyword = NAME, the command format is:

SECMODIF,SECID, NAME, Name

SECID

Unique section number. This number must already be assigned to a section.

NAME

Change the name of the specified pretension section.

Name

The new name to be assigned to the pretension section.

Joints

If Keyword = JOINT, the command format is:

SECMODIF,SECID, JOINT, Option, dispPnltVal, RotPnltVal

SECID

Unique section number (which must already be assigned to a section), or unspecified. If no section number is specified, the penalty factors are applied to all joint sections associated with penalty-based joint elements only.

JOINT

Set command actions to apply to joint sections only.

Option

PNLT -- Modify penalty factors for the specified section.

dispPnltVal

Penalty value for displacement-based constraints:

> 0 -- The number is used as a scaling factor to scale the internally calculated penalty values.
< 0 -- The absolute value of the number is used as the penalty factor in calculations.
RotPnltVal

Penalty value for rotation-based constraints.

> 0 -- The number is used as a scaling factor to scale the internally calculated penalty values.
< 0 -- The absolute value of the number is used as the penalty factor in calculations.

Shells

If Keyword = SHELL, the command format is:

SECMODIF, SECID, SHELL, Item, Value

SECID

Unique section number. This number must already be assigned to a section if it is an integer value. If SECID = ALL, the input value is applied to all defined shell sections. A table name (%tablename%) is valid for multiple sections. Only an array-type table is valid.

SHELL

Modify a property of previously defined shell sections based on Item and Value.

Item

Label identifying data to modify. For details, see Table 245: Valid Item and Values for Selected Shell Sections.

Value

Input value for Item. For details, see Table 245: Valid Item and Values for Selected Shell Sections.

[a] The Item labels are equivalent to field names in the related commands.

[b] To apply the item and value to specific layers, issue EMSEL prior to this command.

[c] The EMSEL command is not necessary for the data defined by the SECCONTROL, SECOFFSET, and SECFUNCTION commands.

[d] The labels can be used for pre-defined offset locations.

[e] If the input is a numeric value, the offsets are considered user-defined offsets.

Beams

If Keyword = BEAM, the command format is:

SECMODIF, SECID, BEAM, SubType, Item, Value

SECID

Unique section number. This number must already be assigned to a section if it is an integer value. If SECID = ALL, the input value is applied to all defined beam sections with a valid subtype. A table name (%tablename%) is valid for multiple sections. Only an array-type table is valid.

BEAM

Modify a property of previously defined beam sections based on Item and Value.

SubType

Label identifying section subtype. Valid subtypes are RECT, QUAD, CSOL, CTUB, CHAN, I, Z, L, T, HATS, HREC and ASEC.

Item

Label identifying data to modify. For details, see Table 246: Valid Item and Values for Selected Beam Sections.

Value

Input value for Item. For details, see Table 246: Valid Item and Values for Selected Beam Sections.

[b] When you input a new property, related section properties are recalculated. Therefore, if the centroid or shear centroid location was previously overridden by SECOFFSET, they are overwritten by the calculated values.

Pipes

If Keyword = PIPE, the command format is:

SECMODIF, SECID, PIPE, Item, Value

SECID

Unique section number. This number must already be assigned to a section if it is an integer value. If SECID = ALL, the input value is applied to all defined pipe sections. A table name (%tablename%) is valid for multiple sections. Only an array-type table is valid.
