Import Material Library from a File

If you opened the Mechanical application independently, use the Import Materials option to import a file of material definitions and properties into your Mechanical project.

  1. In the Outline pane, right-click Materials and select Import Materials from the menu. The system Open dialog box is displayed.

  2. Navigate to the directory where your material library file is located.

  3. Select the file and click Open.

The Mechanical application imports the material library into your project. The imported materials are listed as project materials in the Engineering Data Material View pane.

Import Material Library from the Engineering Data Workspace

If you opened the Mechanical application from Workbench, use the Engineering Data workspace to import a material library file. You cannot directly import a material library into your Mechanical model.

  1. Follow the directions in Importing Data as a Data Source in the Engineering Data User's Guide to import a material library file into the Engineering Data workspace.

  2. Load the updated Engineering Data materials and material models into the Mechanical application. Do one of the following:

    • In the Workbench Project window, right-click the Engineering Data module and select Update Upstream Components from the menu.

    • In the Mechanical application, use the Refresh Materials option to update the materials in your model from the Engineering Data workspace.
