5. Commands

This section describes changes to commands at Release 2025 R2:

Some commands are inaccessible from menus and are available via the command-input field or batch-file input only. The documentation for each command indicates menu path information, if available.

5.1. New Commands

The following commands are new for this release.

  • CNTGEN – Generates a contact pair based on components. The command creates a contact pair based on element components with face ID (EFACE component(s) via the CMBLOCK command) or nodal components provided for the contact surface and the target surface.

  • FVAL – Defines a Large Mass (LM) force for base excitation problems. The command takes displacement, velocity, or acceleration as the input and converts it to a force that is applied in the specified direction. You must add a MASS21 element at the specified node to compute the LM force.

  • SFCGEN – Generates multi-point (MPC) surface-based constraints based on element components. The command creates surface-based MPCs with face ID (EFACE component(s) via the CMBLOCK command) or nodal components provided for the contact surface and the target surface.

5.2. Modified Commands

The following commands have been enhanced or otherwise modified:

  • ALPHAD – Enables adaptive mass proportional damping via the AUTO option. This improves convergence in non-linear problems that use the quasi-static method or the static-to-transient method.

  • AMBUILD – Specifies printer parameters for the build and other options in an additive manufacturing (AM) analysis. A new AMBUILD,SEQUENCE option allows you to define distinct heating steps in an electron beam melting (EBM) process as well as component-specific process parameters for both laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) and EBM.

  • CM – Groups geometry items into a component. Component names now support a set of special characters.

  • CMGRP – Groups components and assemblies into an assembly. Component names now support a set of special characters.

  • CMLIST – Lists the contents of a component or assembly. A new EFACE entity type enables listing element face components.

  • /CONFIG – Assigns values to Mechanical APDL configuration parameters. The default for /CONFIG,RESUPREC is now VAL = 1 if /CONFIG is not issued or /CONFIG,RESUPREC is issued without a value.

  • DELTIM – Bypasses the default automatic time incrementation via the ForceKey option, The program adheres to the initial time increment specified.

  • *DIM – Defines an array parameter and its dimensions. The parameter name (Par) can now contain up to 240 characters.

  • ESOL – Specifies element data to be stored from the results file. The existing CAP item has been extended to the EDP Cap Creep model. Use the new CAPC item to post-process, in the EDP Cap Creep model, the equivalent creep strains used in the compaction zone and the shear and expansion zone.

  • ETABLE – Fills a table of element values for further processing. The existing CAP item has been extended to the EDP Cap Creep model. Use the new CAPC item to post-process, in the EDP Cap Creep model, the equivalent creep strains used in the compaction zone and the shear and expansion zone.

  • *GET – Retrieves a value and stores it as a scalar parameter or part of an array parameter. Use the new postprocessing data type output (IT3NUM = DKTH when Entity = CINT) to retrieve the threshold stress-intensity factor range specified in SMART fatigue crack-growth analysis.

  • MODCONT – Specifies additional modal analysis options. Use the new FastLV option, NOEXP, to activate fast load vector generation without modal expansion and reduce writing to the .mode file by activating node-based mode file scoping.

  • OSRES – Controls the selected result data written to the database, helping to reduce the size of the results (RST) file. The initial state values for various quantities can now be stored and postprocessed using the INISTATE command.

  • PLCINT / PRCINT – Plots / lists fracture parameter (CINT) results data. Use the new data type output (Dtype = DKTH) to retrieve the threshold stress-intensity factor range specified in SMART fatigue crack-growth analysis.

  • PLESOL – Displays solution results as discontinuous element contours. The existing CAP item has been extended to the EDP Cap Creep model. Use the new CAPC item to post-process, in the EDP Cap Creep model, the equivalent creep strains used in the compaction zone and the shear and expansion zone.

  • PLNSOL – Displays solution results as continuous element contours. The existing CAP item has been extended to the EDP Cap Creep model. Use the new CAPC item to post-process, in the EDP Cap Creep model, the equivalent creep strains used in the compaction zone and the shear and expansion zone.

  • PRESOL – Prints the solution results for elements. The existing CAP item has been extended to the EDP Cap Creep model. Use the new CAPC item to post-process, in the EDP Cap Creep model, the equivalent creep strains used in the compaction zone and the shear and expansion zone.

  • PRNSOL – Prints nodal solution results. The existing CAP item has been extended to the EDP Cap Creep model. Use the new CAPC item to post-process, in the EDP Cap Creep model, the equivalent creep strains used in the compaction zone and the shear and expansion zone.

  • RBGEN – Via the ECOMP option, optionally specifies the name of a new component that is composed of new rigid elements generated by the command.

  • RESWRITE – Appends results data from the database to a results file. Use the new gFlag option to append results data from the database to the results file, if there is no geometry data in the file.

  • RMODIF – Optionally, specify an acronym name instead of a serial number when you are using this command to modify a real constant item for contact elements.

  • *SET – Assigns values to user-named parameters. The parameter name (Par) can now contain up to 240 characters.

  • SUGET – Moves surface geometry and mapped results to an array parameter. The parameter name (Parm) can now contain up to 240 characters.

  • TB – Activates a data table for linear and nonlinear material properties or special element input.

    • A new frictional contact model is now available using FRIC, TBOPT=ATAN.

    • Anisotropic electrical conductivity is now supported with a new material model data type (TB,ELEC).

  • *VGET – Retrieves values and stores them into an array parameter. A new EFACE keyword for the Entity option returns aggregated bitmap face ID values of corresponding elements on surfaces.
