To load legacy files into 2025 R1 Service Pack 2 from versions prior to 2024 R2 SP3 or files saved in 2024 R2 SP3, follow these steps.
STEP 1: : Enable Lab features for legacy file compatibility in 2025 R1 SP2
Run the Motion Preprocessor 2025 R1 SP2 and navigate to > . Enable the following options to configure compatibility settings for legacy files:
- Legacy ACIS Kernel-based File Support
This option must be enabled to open legacy files containing ACIS geometry in 2025 R1. Once enabled, the menu appears in the tree view, allowing detailed configuration for Parasolid conversion, including output verbosity and default conversion engine settings.
- Opening files saved from versions prior to 2024 R2 Service Pack 3
Due to the kernel transition, ACIS geometry information stored in legacy files from versions prior to 2024 R2 SP3 must be converted to Parasolid geometry. However, the existing data alone may not be sufficient for this conversion, so 2024 R2 SP3 includes additional data to minimize compatibility issues when loading legacy files in 2025 R1. To open legacy files in 2025 R1, they must therefore be saved using 2024 R2 SP3.
When both 2024 R2 SP3 and 2025 R1 SP2 are installed on the same system, enabling this feature allows you to open legacy files saved in versions prior to 2024 R2 SP3 directly in 2025 R1 SP2, skipping the manual process of saving them in 2024 R2 SP3. You should enable this feature for seamless file opening.
To enable this feature, activate the option in the settings and ensure the corresponding option is enabled in the tab.
Note:
To use this feature, both 2024 R2 SP3 and 2025 R1 SP2 must be installed on the same system.
This feature supports only saved file versions 6.0 or higher. For versions below 6.0, files must be manually saved in 2024 R2 SP3 or converted using the batch conversion tool.

- ACIS to Parasolid conversion output verbosity
Controls the level of detail in error messages shown in the Conversion tab of the output window.
Options include:
: Provides comprehensive output with all informational messages, warnings, and errors.
: Outputs only warnings and errors.
(default): Outputs only errors.
: Limits output to critical error messages only.
- Default conversion engine
Specifies the engine for ACIS to Parasolid conversion.
Options include:
(default): Attempts conversion using as the primary engine. If the conversion fails, no further attempts are made using alternative engines.
: Uses as the conversion engine.
: Uses as the conversion engine. Available only if Motion 2024 R2 SP3 is installed. If conversion succeeds with but the converted model has issues, try using this option.
: Uses as the conversion engine. This engine resolves most conversion failure issues that previously prevented models from opening and fixes problems with non-volume bodies not being imported. Note that in some cases, faces in Facesets may be converted with reversed normal directions, so caution is required.
- If the conversion fails, use an alternative conversion engine
When selected, if the conversion fails and an alternative engine is available, the application retries the conversion using the alternative engine.
- Opening files saved from versions prior to 2024 R2 Service Pack 3
Enabling this feature allows you to open legacy files from versions prior to 2024 R2 SP3 in 2025 R1 SP2 without first saving them in 2024 R2 SP3. To use this feature, both 2024 R2 SP3 and 2025 R1 SP2 must be installed on the same system. This will skip the manual saving process in 2024 R2 SP3, automatically handling the compatibility data for converting ACIS geometry to Parasolid.
STEP 2: Open legacy files in 2025 R1 Service Pack 2
To open legacy files saved in 2024 R2 SP3 with 2025 R1 SP2, the Legacy ACIS Kernel-based File Support feature must be enabled. When the Opening files saved from versions prior to 2024 R2 Service Pack 3 feature is activated and 2024 R2 SP3 is installed on the same system, legacy files saved in versions prior to 2024 R2 SP3 can be opened directly in 2025 R1 SP2. When opening legacy files in 2025 R1 SP2, these files are automatically converted to Parasolid. Note that even when legacy files are loaded in 2025 R1 SP2, some data may fail to convert to Parasolid and could be lost.
To verify a successful Parasolid conversion, check the following:
Ensure all bodies are displayed correctly, as some geometry may not render properly.
Verify that all entities are intact, as certain entities may be removed during conversion.
Open the Faceset properties to confirm that face, edge, and curve selections are correct, as some selections may have been deselected or misaligned. Check that the reverse direction of faces is correctly set, as some faces may have been converted with reversed normal directions.
Due to the kernel transition, the orientation of the CM Marker for rigid bodies may change. If the CM Marker is used in function expressions, forces, boundary conditions, or measurement functions, model adjustments may be necessary.
Note: Before saving the file converted to Parasolid in 2025 R1 SP2, you should create a backup.
If loading legacy files fails or if conversion-related issues arise, refer to Troubleshooting Guide for Parasolid Kernel.
