3.28.3. Generating Modal Data in MSC.NASTRAN

After the eigenvalue analysis in MSC.NASTRAN is carried out, Motion can get modal data from the OUT file. For this purpose, the input file of MSC.NASTRAN must be modified before the eigenvalue analysis as shown in the figure below.

The OUT file can be generated by several steps as described in the following table.

Figure 3.182: Steps to create the OUT file in MSC.NASTRAN

StepOperation
1st stepModify the MSC.NASTRAN input file for the eigenvalue analysis while defining the DMAP file name as DF_dfmf.alt as shown in Figure 3.183: Steps to create the RST file in Ansys.
2nd stepCopy the Motion_dfmf.alt file to the folder where the modified input file is placed. The ALT file is located in the Program Files\ANSYS Inc\V251\ANSYS\bin\\Motion\Tools\Modal Flex\NASTRAN\alt\ folder.
3rd stepExecute the MSC.NASTRAN program, select the modified input file from the file browser and then run the analysis.

After finishing the analysis, the OUT file will be created in the same folder as where the modified input file is placed.

Samples of the MSC.NASTRAN input file for the eigenvalue analysis are located in the Program Files\ANSYS Inc\V251\ANSYS\bin\\Motion\Tools\Modal Flex\NASTRAN\Examples\ folder.
