5.8. Rigid Dynamics Analysis

Introduction

You can perform a Rigid Dynamics analysis in the Mechanical application using the Ansys Rigid Dynamics solver. This type of analysis is used to determine the dynamic response of an assembly of rigid bodies linked by joints and springs. You can use this type of analysis to study the kinematics of a robot arm or a crankshaft system for example.

Points to Remember

  • Inputs and outputs are joint forces, moments, displacements, velocities and accelerations.

  • On rigid parts, there are no stresses and strain results produced, only forces, moments, displacements, velocities and accelerations.

  • The solver is tuned to automatically adjust the time step. Doing it manually is often inefficient and results in longer run times.
