12.1. General Procedure for Meshing of Low-Fidelity and High-Fidelity Geometry

  1. Import CAD or generate CAD. The resulting CAD geometry contains both low-fidelity and high-fidelity representations of the geometry.

For details, see Sources of High-Fidelity Geometry for TurboGrid.

  2. For imported CAD: In the Geometry workspace, specify topological entities, including at least one that is for the high-fidelity geometric feature.

For generated CAD: The topological entities are automatically specified.

  3. Activate ATM3D.

  4. Adjust the Mesh Data settings as needed.

The Mesh Data settings include settings for each unstructured mesh block surrounding a high-fidelity geometric feature.

  5. Analyze the mesh to ensure quality by checking the mesh statistics and using 3D Mesh and other visualization objects as needed.

  6. Save the mesh.

At any time after the high-fidelity topological entities are defined, you can view the low-fidelity geometry, the high-fidelity geometry, or both at the same time.

When generating a mesh, you can suppress the unstructured mesh block for some or all high-fidelity geometric features, for example to reduce mesh generation time when doing preliminary design work.
