Saving and Retaining Sketches

You can Save and Open models containing sketch Constraints. Designs that include Constraints will open in Sketch mode. Leaving Sketch mode will trigger the deletion of all constraint data. You need to save a copy of the sketch with constraints intact before solidifying if you intend to resume the design with constraints.

Note: Sketch constraints are active only in 2D sketch mode. If you switch to 3D mode, existing constraint data is deleted. If you expect to edit constraints as part of your design workflow, you must save a copy of the sketch with constraints before switching to 3D mode.

You can also select the Retain Sketch option so that the sketch is not consumed by 3D geometry when sketching is complete.

  • Sketch objects added after retaining the sketch are also retained.

  • The sketch and sketch objects remain in the tree until you choose to delete them. To delete the sketch/sketch objects, select them in the tree and select Delete from the context menu.

After retaining the sketch, you can select the Use for 3D option to create regular curves and surfaces for closed sketch regions. The original sketch is retained for reuse even after you select Use for 3D.

Removing Interior Surfaces

Use the Remove Interiors option to remove interior surfaces that would be created for closed sketch regions within the sketch on switching to 3D mode. Select the Sketching Plane node in the Structure tree and enable Remove Interiors from the context menu.
