16. Structural Optimization

The following Structural Optimization analysis enhancements were made at Release 2024 R2:

  • Refactoring Enhancements.

    • For the Mixable Density optimization method, Ansys has refactored the material interpolation when doing Modal analyses in order to not create spurious modes due to intermediate densities.

    • For the Mixable Density and Level Set based optimization methods, the calculation of Reaction Force response constraint, with respect to optimized regions of the model, has been refactored to improve the accuracy.

    • For the Mixable Density, Density Based, and Level Set based optimization methods, the accuracy of stress results, specifically Maximal Principal Stress, has been improved. As a result, you may notice changes to displayed result values compared to previous releases.

  • Manufacturing Constraint. A new Manufacturing Constraint is available Complexity Index. This manufacturing constraint enables you to control the complexity of optimized designs and minimize the creation of overly complex structures.

  • Primary Criterion for Modal Analyses. Now, when you specify a Primary Criterion object under the Solution object of a Modal analysis, the Frequency Reduction property includes a new option: Mode Tracking. This option enables you to track an eigenmode of interest.

  • Mixable Density. This optimization method now supports:

    • Upstream Harmonic Response analyses.

    • User Defined Criteria in upstream Harmonic Response analyses that you can use as a Response Constraint and Objective.

    • The Stress criterion that you can us as a Response Constraint or Objective.

  • Shape Optimization. This optimization method now supports the:

    • Use of the Extrusion Manufacturing Constraint.

    • Local Equivalent von-Mises Stress Response Constraint.
