Test Case

Free surface flow around a ship. In this multiphase open channel flow problem, the profile of free surface at ship hull is compared with experimental results.

Flow Domain

Material PropertiesGeometry Boundary Conditions

Water Density : 997  kg/m3

Water Viscosity: 0.008899  kg/m-s

The hull geometry has a parabolic shape with a hull length = 3.014 m.

Pressure inlet and pressure outlet with multiphase open channel boundary. Reynold’s number=4900000 at inlet.

Analysis Assumptions and Modeling Notes

The flow is steady. SST k-w model is used for turbulence modeling. Polyhedral mesh of 921470 cells is used to discretize the domain.
