Components and Assemblies

A component can be used to help organize your project. A component can have solids, surfaces, construction geometry or even other components inside them.

Components are shown in the model tree. All the objects are contained within a top-level design component which is created automatically when you first save your design. You can create any further components using the options in the context menu. Once you create a component, the icon in the tree changes to show that the top-level design is now an assembly.

  • You can load multiple instances of a component. These are known as dependent components. Changes to one instance will change all instances.
  • Copies of components that have been made independent of other copies are known as independent components. Changes to the independent copy will not affect the original and vice versa.

The context-menu contains options to work with the components--expand/collapse tree nodes, sort components alphabetically, creating, deleting, renaming components, etc. You can also export an internal component as a separate file.
