Analysis Assumptions and Modeling Notes

The problem is solved in two different ways:

  • using 3D 8-node solid elements (SOLID185)

  • using 3D 20-node solid elements (SOLID186)

Due to symmetry, only one-quarter of the bar is modeled. The preload is applied using the PRETS179 2D/3D Pretension Element and the SLOAD command.
