An elastomeric o-ring relies on a compressive contact pressure acting on the exterior surface of the o-ring seal to prevent fluid leakage between regions. Successful seal design ensures adequate seal compressive pressure while minimizing the desctructive effects of stress acting on the o-ring as a result of the compression.
The components of the sealing system to be modeled are an elastomer o-ring and a rolled-shape plastic cap. The figure below is a 3D view of the model with a one-quarter cutout to show the o-ring configuration.
