Results are presented at two time points: 2.5E-4 seconds and 3.35E-4 seconds.
Results at 2.5E-4 Seconds
The following results at 2.5E-4 seconds are shown in the figure:
(a) Displacement of the rigid punch and deformed shape of the grip |
(b) Equivalent plastic strain; the maximum is at the top edge of the grip as it comes in contact with the rigid punch |
(c) Contact status plots of both surface-to-surface and edge-to-surface contact during the solution |

Results at 3.35E-4 Seconds
The following results at 3.35E-4 seconds are shown in the figure:
(a) Displacement of the rigid punch and the final deformed shape of the grip |
(b) Equivalent plastic strain; the maximum is at the grip |

Figure (a) below shows the cross-sectional view of the B-shaped crimp which is finally formed at the end of the deformation. Observe that the grip is completely folded around the wires and is in contact with the wires. Figure (b) shows the final deformed shape of the wires and their out-of-plane extrusion.
The following animation shows the deformation over time of the grip as it is folded around the wires by the rigid punch to form a B- shaped crimp.
