Understanding How to Analyze a Graded Material File

Thanks to the 3D Energy Density Lab you can import a graded index material file to view its content.

Graded materials files (*.gradedmaterial) are usually generated with other/external software or using script, and it can be difficult to know what and how they are made of. The 3D Energy Density Lab helps you visualize either the refractive index or volumic absorption data of the graded materials file using its different tools.

Useful Tools to Analyze

Volume and Section

The Volume and Section tool helps you define the size and the position of a volume or a section plane and gives you the maximum, minimum and average of the imported measure in the volume or section (either the refractive index or volumic absorption).

Cutting Views

The Cutting Views helps you define a sectional view of the displayed element thanks to guizmo in order to see inside the element.

Level

The Level tool provides the scale of the imported measure.

The scale is automatically set with the minimum and maximum value of the imported measure. The minimum does not start to 0 as the difference between the minimum and maximum of the imported measure can be very small.

Layer List

The Layer List provide the list of the different wavelengths included in the graded material file.
  • One layer created for each wavelength included in the file.
  • The scale does not change when changing the wavelength to be able to compare the wavelengths.

To adapt the scale to the wavelength, click Default.
