Adding and Defining Document Variables

Note: We recommend you to add a simulation to the optimization. You can however define document variables even if no simulation is selected yet.
  1. In the Optimization definition, in the Variables panel, select the Document variables tab.
  2. Click to open the Document variables list.

Note: Unlike Simulation Variables and Design Variables, the Document Variables appearing in the Document Variables list do not necessarily impact the simulation. Therefore, make sure to add Document Variables that are related to your optical system or your simulation.
The list shows you the available numerical parameters that you can add as variable that come from the Driving Dimension parameters and/or Script parameters created.
  3. Check the parameters to vary.
Tip: In case of a large number of numerical parameters, you can use the filter tool to help you quickly find the parameters.
  4. Close the Document variables list.
Variables appear into the Document variables tab.
  5. In the Document variables tab, for each variable, set the Min value and Max value to define the range of values the variable can take.

The Current value must be set between the Min value and Max value: Min value < Current value < Max value
Now you can add other variable types as Design variables or Simulation variables or directly add the optimization Targets.
