Understanding the Block Recording Tool

The following page helps you understand how to use the Block Recording Tool in Speos.

Description

The goal of recording operations (SpaceClaim Design operations and/or Speos features) on imported external CAD geometries is to be able to play again these operations after you updated or modified the geometries in the external CAD software. This saves you from applying again manually the different operations in the Speos environment.

For more information on how to use the Block Recording tool, refer to the SpaceClaim Recording documentation.

Generic Workflow

Important: The Block Recording tool can be opened for only one document in a session. It does not work for multiple *.scdocx documents opened in the same session.
Warning: Once the Block Recording tool is activated, do not deactivate it or you will loose all the added blocks.
  1. In Speos, import external CAD geometries.
  2. Activate the Block Recording tool .
  3. If you want, you can apply SpaceClaim Design Modeling operations.
  4. Create Speos feature (apply material, create a source, a sensor, a simulation, an Optical Part Design feature).

To add a parameter to the Block Recording you have two possibilities:
    • Modify the parameter's value in the feature definition.
    • Check the check box that appears in front of the parameters that can be exported into the Block Recording or Workbench.

The parameter will be exported to the block recording with its current value, or with its default value if you have not modified the value.

For more information on non-compatible Speos feature, refer to Non-Compatible Speos Features and Actions with the Recording Tool.

  5. Exit the definition of the feature when you are done with it to create the feature block in the Block Recording tree: press [Esc] or uncheck Edit in the Design tab.

The feature appears with the different parameters modified in one same block.

  6. Run a Speos simulation.

Note: When you run a simulation, only CPU compute and GPU compute are recorded. HPC compute is not recorded.
  7. Save the project.

You created a list of recorded blocks containing operations that can be played back.

  8. In the External CAD Software, modify the geometries according to your needs.
  9. Save the project.
  10. In Speos, in the Block Recording tool, you can:
    • click Continue to play up to the end of the recorded blocks.
    • click Next Feature to play the recorded blocks step by step.
    • right-click a block and select Move to to play up to this specific recorded block.
Note: If you modified the filename of the CAD part, make sure to modify it in the Start Block.

Operations are played back on the modified geometries, and you can see that Speos links are kept.
