How to Set up Licensing for the HFSS Plug-In

If you install ModelCenter and configure its licensing first, then it will create its own version of the Ansys license in the folder C:\Program Files\Phoenix Integration\Ansys Client Licensing Settings\Shared Files\licensing.

If you later install HFSS, it will only look for a license file in the folder C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\licensing. Because ModelCenter Desktop was installed and configured first, however, this folder will not include the necessary license file. Trying to run HFSS or the HFSS Plug-In will result in an error.

To fix this issue, either:

  • Install HFSS first so that the license file is set in the C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\licensing folder. ModelCenter will look first to the Phoenix Integration path above, but will fall back to the ANSYS Inc folder if no license is found.
  • If ModelCenter was installed first, then copy the ansyslmd.ini file from C:\Program Files\Phoenix Integration\Ansys Client Licensing Settings\Shared Files\licensing to the C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\licensing folder. Then each program will have the appropriate licensing.
