Tips for the HFSS Plug-In

  • Users should always uncheck the "Use separate columns for curves" option when exporting template report files.
  • The HFSS Plug-In does not currently work with Trade Study parallelization.
  • Ansys Electronics Desktop (AEDT) sometimes changes the magnitude of units in the generated report .csv (e.g., current units may be "A" before generating the template .csv and then "mA" in the .csv exported by the plug-in). Because the plug-in cannot change the units of a variable in ModelCenter Desktop, if the magnitude of units does change then ModelCenter will throw an error but only after all the AEDT analyses have been run, which can take a long time. To prevent this from happening, change the units in the plug-in UI variable properties or uncheck "Auto Units" for the report in AEDT.
  • If the .csv file has empty cells or other input that ModelCenter recognizes as "bad data", ModelCenter will also throw an error after all the AEDT analyses have been run.
  • AEDT sometimes puts duplicate columns in report .csv files (for example, two "Freq" columns). This produces an error when selecting variables in the plug-in because ModelCenter requires that variable names are unique.
  • AEDT report results can be complex numbers. Currently this produces an error in the plug-in after running the AEDT analysis. AEDT allows usrs to create separate traces for the real and imaginary parts of complex number, which will show up as 2 output variables in MCD.
  • ModelCenter does not allow AEDT models with duplicate report names (even between different designs). AEDT allows using the same report name for reports in different designs, but ModelCenter uses the report name to associate the template .csv with the report. If a project has multiple reports with the same name, the plug-in will error on variable selection. The workaround is to manually rename one of the reports in AEDT.
  • When halting the plug-in while running, it takes a while (~30 seconds) for AEDT to stop and for the plug-in to be run again. This appears to be a limitation of AEDT.
