Searching

Find records that meet specified criteria by entering keywords, setting the required property values, and specifying the folders or records to search.

To specify search criteria:
  • Enter the text you are looking for. Records that include the search term in their name or in text data are returned. Search terms may contain any letters or numbers, and they are not case-sensitive. Most punctuation and special characters are ignored when you search.
For example, a text search for silicate could return all of these records:
    • Alumino silicate - 1720
    • Lithium aluminosilicate
    • Porcelain (silicaeous)
    • Terracotta
(Where the Porcelain and Terracotta records include the phrase "alumino-silicate" in their Composition (summary).)
To fine-tune your text search query, you can include search query operators within search terms.
  • Choose one or more Favorites Lists to restrict the search to records in the selected lists.
  • Use the database tree filter to restrict the search to selected records and folders.
  • Use the property filter controls to find records with specific data values.
  • You may be able to specify compatibility criteria by selecting records in other tables, for example, to exclude materials that are not compatible with specific processes, producers, specifications, coatings, or end of life options.
Once you have run a search, you can change your view of the search results by clicking on the relevant tab.
  • List: view your search results as a list of records.
  • Thumbnails: view your search results as a grid of images.
  • Scatter plot: plot data from your search results on a scatter plot.
  • Radar plot: plot data from your search results on radar plot.
  • Curves: plot curve data from your search results.
You can save your search criteria as a Custom Search.
