Specifying a manufacturing location
You can specify the manufacturing location of Parts, Processes, and your final product. The environmental impacts of electricity and heat production at each location will be taken into account when calculating the environmental indicators for the Manufacturing phase.
Data on electricity and heat production impacts for locations is available at a country and regional level, and for global average values. You can specify manufacturing locations at different levels of your BoM to improve the accuracy of impact calculations:
- Processes
- Assign specific locations to individual processes applied to materials in your BoM. This allows for different locations per process. For example, a material which undergoes primary processing in one location and is then transported elsewhere for secondary processing.
- Parts
- Specify a single manufacturing location for each part.
- BoM (final product)
- Specify a single manufacturing location for the final product as a whole. This location must be assigned at the BoM level.
If a Process or Part does not have a manufacturing location assigned, the Sustainability analysis will default to the location of the nearest parent item that does have one. For example, if a material has a Primary Process without a specified location, but the Part it is assigned to has a location defined, the analysis will use the Part’s location when calculating the impact of the Primary Process.
