Indicators in the Sustainability report and BoM analysis
The mass value and indicator columns are shown on the BoM Details sheet of the Sustainability report (in Excel format), and in the analyzed BoM in BoM Analyzer in Sustainability mode.
| Column name | Description |
|---|---|
| BoM Level(in Excel report) | In the Excel report: The level of the BoM hierarchy that this BoM item is located at, where the root part = level 1. (In BoM Analyzer, the structure of the BoM hierarchy is shown visually, so this column is not required.) |
|
ID (in Excel report) Item (in BoM Analyzer) |
For BoM items (including parts and assemblies) that refer to records in the Granta MI database: The unique identifier of the record in the database. For parts and assemblies that have been created in BoM Analyzer, viewed from a CAD or PLM application via MI Materials Gateway, or defined in an XML BoM file: The part identifier, as specified in the initial BoM before analysis. |
| Name |
For BoM items (including parts and assemblies) that represent records in the Granta MI database: The name, display name, or designation of the record in the database. For parts and assemblies that have been created or edited directly in BoM Analyzer, viewed from a CAD or PLM application via MI Materials Gateway, or defined explicitly in an XML BoM file: The part name, as specified in the initial BoM before analysis. |
| Item Type(in Excel report) |
In the Excel report: The type of BoM item that this row
represents: one of Part, Material, Process, Location, or
Transport. (In BoM Analyzer, the item type is indicated by its
icon, so this column is not required.)
Note: Specifications and
Substances cannot be added to the BoM when you are working in
Sustainability mode. However, they may appear in the Excel
Sustainability report if they already exist in the initial BoM
(for example, as an explicitly defined item in an XML BoM file,
or as a surface treatment assignment in MI Materials Gateway). Specifications
and Substances in the initial BoM do not affect the mass or
indicator calculations for Sustainability analysis, and are not
shown in BoM Analyzer. |
| Quantity | The quantity or amount of this item at this location in the BoM. Must be specified in the initial BoM, either as an absolute value, or as a percentage (by mass) of the parent item. |
| Unit of Measure | The unit in which the Quantity is specified. |
|
Measured Mass (per UoM) (in Excel report) Mass per UoM (in BoM Analyzer) |
Where the Quantity has been specified using a non-mass Unit of Measure (for example, volume, length, area, ‘Each’ for a part): The mass that this Unit of Measure represents. |
|
Measured Mass unit (in Excel report) Mass unit(in BoM Analyzer) |
The unit that the Measured Mass (per UoM) is displayed in. Note:
In general, if the Quantity is
specified using a non-mass unit, this will be a mass unit
divided by the Unit of Measure.
For example, if the Quantity of an item is specified as a volume (for example, with Unit of Measure = m3), its Measured Mass (per UoM) will be displayed in units of density (for example, with Measured Mass unit = kg/m3). |
| Rolled-up Mass (per UoM) | A mass value that is calculated by the analysis (where possible) for each BoM item, as the sum of the Reported Mass values for each of the items immediately below it in the BoM. |
| % Deviation | If a Measured Mass and a Rolled-up Mass are both available for an item, a mass check comparison is carried out between the two values: Measured Mass (per UoM) and Rolled-up mass (per UoM). The % deviation column shows the result of this check, relative to the Measured Mass (per UoM). |
| Reported Mass (kg) |
A mass value that is calculated by the analysis and displayed in the analyzed BoM and report, that represents the total (final) mass for the quantity of the item specified at that location in the BoM, taking into account the quantities of parent assemblies. For example, for a part in the BoM, the Reported Mass is for the number of parts specified in the Quantity column, multiplied by the Quantity of its parent assembly, and similarly by the Quantity of each of its ancestors in the BoM hierarchy. |
| Mass Before Processing (kg) | The initial mass of material prior to any subtractive processing (that is, removal of material). The environmental impacts of primary production of material, and primary processing, are calculated based on this mass. |
| Material Grade (in BoM Analyzer) | In BoM Analyzer, before and after analysis: Indicates whether the
grade of the material has been specified in the initial BoM as
'Virgin' or 'Typical'. Note: Specifying a material grade as a
percentage value is not supported at this release. If the original
BoM that you viewed in BoM Analyzer (for example, an XML BoM file)
has a numerical or percentage value for the material grade, data
values for 'Virgin grade' will be used in the
analysis. |
| Material Grade Used(in analyzed BoM and Excel report) |
In the analyzed BoM and the Excel report: Indicates whether data for 'Virgin grade' or 'Typical grade' has been used in the analysis calculations.
If the grade of the material is not specified in the initial BoM, data values for 'Typical grade' are used in the analysis. |
| Embodied Energy (MJ) | Indicator value that represents the direct and indirect energy use associated with this BoM item. Based on the cumulative energy demand method developed by ecoinvent. |
| Embodied Energy (%) | Percentage contribution of this BoM item (part/assembly, material, process, or transport stage) to the total Embodied Energy of the product, as calculated by the analysis. |
| Climate Change (CO2-eq) (kg) | Indicator value that represents an estimation of global warming potential, considering emissions of different gases reported as carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2-eq). Based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) method. |
| Climate Change (CO2-eq) (%) | The percentage contribution of this BoM item (part/assembly, material, process, or transport stage) to the total Climate Change indicator value for the product, as calculated by the analysis. |
| Recyclable | Indicates whether the material can be recycled, regardless of the quality of the recyclates. |
| Functional Recycle | Indicates whether the material can be recycled into material of an equivalent quality, that can be used for the same (or similar) applications. |
| Biodegradable | Indicates whether the material is biodegradable. Includes any waste that is capable of undergoing anaerobic or aerobic decomposition. |
| Fallback Used |
For in-house materials: Indicates whether generic data from a
linked record in MaterialUniverse has been used to fill gaps in
the data required by this analysis.
|
| Ansys Record? |
Indicates whether the Granta MI record referenced by this BoM
item (Part, Material, Process, Location, or Transport record) is
owned by Ansys (= 'Yes') or created in-house (= 'No' or
blank).
Note: Any material in the MaterialUniverse table is
assumed to be an Ansys reference data record. |
