Searching for materials

If you have specific material properties or details that you need, searching for materials can be faster than browsing. You can search for materials in your Granta MI database in two ways.

Text Search
On the Favorites or Browse screen, enter some text (for example, a material name, or text that appears in a description) into the search bar at the top of the screen. This search will search all materials and databases in your current profile with no filters applied. You can change your profile using on the left of the search bar. For more information, see Choose your profile.
Filtered Search
You can apply filters to your search to specify values for material properties, and to search within a specific database. After completing a search, you can save your search and re-run it either with the same criteria or with modifications. See Advanced search using filters.
To search for text:
  1. Enter your search term and press Enter or click Search.
Tip: If you don't see the search bar, click in the navigation bar and select Favorites or Browse.
You can use wildcards and combine search terms - for details, see Search operators.

The search results are shown on the Search > Results screen. The Table and Database columns show the record table and database that each material comes from.

You can filter your search results by searching a column. The results are filtered to show only those where the search term appears somewhere in the column. To apply a filter to a column, click in the column header and enter the search term.

  2. To use a material, right-click the material, and then select an action.
Tip: Double-clicking a material will either import it as a CAE material model or assign it to your current selection in the Assignments panel, depending on your host application.
