Plotting Field Overlays in Mechanical
Field overlays are representations of basic or derived field quantities on surfaces or objects for the current design variation. You must have selected Save Fields in the solution setup in order to enable the Plot Fields selections. An exception to this rule is for Transient Thermal solutions, where the first and last time steps' field results are always saved. In this case, selecting the Save Fields option is necessary only when you wish to plot intermediate time step field results.
You must select applicable geometry to create a plot.
You have more control over the display via Modify Plot Attributes.
Much of the content within this branch of the help is general in nature and applicable to multiple design types (HFSS, Q3D, Icepak, and so on). For Mechanical designs, the types of reports and overlays that you can generate are dependent on the Solution Type (Modal, Structural, or Thermal).
