Adding an Inductor

An inductor is a passive electronic component that stores energy in the form of a magnetic field.

To add an inductor:

  1. Click Home. From the Circuit Elements box, click the Add Inductor icon (Add Inductor icon).
  2. Click the location where you want to place the inductor.
  3. Drag the mouse to an appropriate length and direction.
  4. Click to finish drawing.
  5. When you finish drawing the inductor, the Select layers for inductor terminals window appears.

  6. From the Positive Terminal Resides on Layer list, select the layer for the positive end.
  7. From the Negative Terminal Resides on Layer list, select the layer for the negative end.
  8. Click OK.
  9. The Set Inductor Parameters window appears.

  10. From the Name field, type a name for the inductor.
  11. From the Part Number field, type the manufacturer's part number.
  12. From the Inductance field, enter a value in Henries.
  13. From the Parasitic Capacitance field, enter a value in Farads.
  14. From the Parasitic Resistance field, enter a value in Ohms.
  15. Click OK.
  16. You have now added and assigned values to your inductor. You can also edit the parameters.
