The Workbench application provides multiple systems that enable explicit solutions:
Explicit Dynamics
LS-DYNA
The enhancements for these systems for Release 2025 R2 are described below.
Explicit Dynamics
The following updates were made at Release 2025 R2:
Intel MPI upgrade. The default version of Intel MPI used to run parallel Explicit Dynamics jobs has been upgraded to version 2021.14.2.
The Explicit Dynamic Analysis System is now in maintenance mode. Make sure to check the release notes with every release or contact your Account Manager or local support. More information may be found in the Mechanical Beta Features document.
LS-DYNA
For LS-DYNA systems, note the following enhancements for Release 2025 R2:
Battery Modeling. The Randles model type, Solid, allows you to define a detailed battery with multiple components.
Electromagnetic ASCII results. You can postprocess EM ASCII results using the Binout Tracker.
Electromagnetic results. You can postprocess EM calculations in Mechanical and visualize the EM results (for electric voltage, total current density, Joule heat, and so forth).
Acoustics Improvements. The LS-DYNA Acoustics system now supports the Absorption Surface and Rigid Wall loading conditions.
Expanded Materials Support. Additional LS-DYNA material models have been made available in Engineering Data.
Import SPH Particles. You can import SPH particles through External Model when available in the LS-DYNA input file.
Use New S-ALE Keywords. The Use New S-ALE Keywords option is available for S-ALE simulations and allows you to use a more efficient version of the input file, which has new structured keywords and removes redundant keywords.
S-ALE Material Grouping. The Combine Materials option allows you to group multiple parts that have the same material assignment from Engineering Data.
S-ALE Mesh Workflow. The S-ALE Mesh Workflow supports the full range of meshing options available in the solver and loads the full mesh into Mechanical, allowing visualization at the pre-processing stage.
Tracers. Tracers are available in the LS-DYNA system for ALE and S-ALE simulations in Mechanical. The Tracer adds a tracer particle, which saves the history of either a material point or a spatial point.
Post Processing Improvements. The deformation and other contour plots are now displaying the Rigid Wall used in drop test or impact simulations.
Material Assignment Support. The LS-DYNA system now supports Material Assignment, for Bodies only.
