In many situations for a preloaded structure, you are required to perform an initial preloading stage (for example, bolt pretensioning) followed by a set of independent (static) load cases. If the load cases are restart analyses and the preloading is a separate analysis, you must restart from the preloading analysis to change loads, boundaries, or the termination time.
LS-DYNA supports two main methods for restarting an analysis:
Use d3dump or d3full files (restart files, see the Appendix "Restart input data" of Keyword User's Manual Vol. I).
Use binary format dynain.lsda files (dynain files).
