2.4. Managing Entitlements

The Ansys Licensing Portal includes functionality to activate entitlements and manage these activations. The following sections describe how to perform these activities.

2.4.1. Activating Entitlements

For a new Host ID:

  1. Log on to the Ansys Licensing Portal.

    By default, the entitlement page is displayed, listing all active and inactive entitlements for the current customer. An entitlement gives a customer account the right to use a license for a product. An entitlement represents what a customer can activate. A license file is created after activation process is complete.

  2. Select a customer from the Customer Number (Customer Name) dropdown menu.

  3. Click Activations>Activate Entitlements.

    The Activate Entitlements page is pre-populated with all available products and counts. If any products have been previously activated on the selected Host ID, those are highlighted in the

  4. Click the Add server option (+) at the top of the page.

  5. You are prompted to manually enter the Host Name, Host ID and Host ID Type. Alternatively, you can upload the information from a license file by clicking the Update from license option.

  6. Click Save.

  7. In the Activated column, enter the number of activated licenses for each product.

  8. Determine if the licenses are borrowable by enabling the Borrowable checkbox at the top of the page.

  9. Once you have entered the activations for all applicable products, click Save & Download to download the file to your current computer or Save & Email to send the license file to the email address that you used to log in. (Note that if you have not made any changes the options are simply “Generate” and “Email”.)

  10. An informational screen displays all activations. Review the activations, and if they are correct, click Ok.

    A file containing the new license keys is downloaded to your computer or sent to your email address.

For an existing Host ID:

  1. Log on to the Ansys Licensing Portal.

    By default, the entitlement page is displayed, listing all active and inactive entitlements for the current customer. An entitlement gives a customer account the right to use a license for a product. An entitlement represents what a customer can activate. A license file is created after activation process is complete.

  2. Select a customer from the Customer Number (Customer Name) dropdown menu.

  3. Click Activations>Activate Entitlements.

    The Activate Entitlements page is pre-populated with all available products and counts. If any products have been previously activated on the selected Host ID, those are highlighted in the

    If any products were previously activated on the selected Host ID, these products are displayed in the Existing Entitlements section of the panel.

  5. Click Save.

2.4.2. Managing Activations

This section describes the various activation management functions available through the Ansys Licensing Portal.

Accessing the Activation Management Page:

  1. Log on to the Ansys Licensing Portal

    .

  2. Select a customer from the Customer Number (Customer Name) dropdown menu.

  3. Click Activations>Manage Activations.

  4. The Manage Activation page displays the active and inactive servers for the customer you have selected. In addition to being able to examine each server’s history, the icons to the right of each server provide access to the following functions:

Viewing a License File:

  1. Click the View icon (eye image) to show the current activations/license file for the corresponding server.

    The list of entitlements and the counts activated on the selected Host ID are displayed, along with their Start Date and Expiration Dates.

  2. Once you have completed your review of the license file activated on the selected Host ID, click Ok to close the display.

Downloading a License File:

  1. Click the Download icon (downward pointing arrow with horizontal line) to download a local copy of the active license file for the corresponding server.

    The license file is downloaded to the download folder specified in your browser preferences.

  2. The license file is ready to be installed on the selected license server, identified by the information provided during the activation process. To add the license file, see section 5.3.1 Adding a Lincense in the Ansys License Management Guide.

Rehosting a License File:

  1. Click the Rehost icon (right pointing arrow) to rehost the license file active on the current server to a different server.

  2. Enter a new, or existing Host Name, Host ID Type and Host ID.

  3. Click Save.

    The list of entitlements and the counts to be deactivated from the source server and activated on the destination server is displayed.

  4. After reviewing the changes, click Ok to finalize the rehosting procedure.

    The entitlements are deactivated on the source server (inactive status) and activated on the target server. The license file for the target server is downloaded to the download folder specified in your browser preferences.


    Note:  After completing the rehost procedure, stop the Ansys License Manager software on the source server and remove the License File to prevent further user action.


Deactivating a License File:

  1. Click the Deactivate icon (X in a circle) to deactivate the active entitlements from the corresponding server.

    The list of products to be deactivated is displayed.

  2. After reviewing the changes, click Ok to finalize the deactivation procedure.


    Note:   After completing the deactivation procedure, stop the Ansys License Manager software on the corresponding server and remove the License File to prevent further user action.


Exploring a Server History:

  1. Click the arrow to the left of the appropriate server line to expand the history of actions that happened on that server.

    The history of modifications to the corresponding server are displayed along with information regarding the type of action (EDIT, REHOST, etc.), the actor that made the action and the timestamp.

  2. Click the arrow to the left of the history entry to further expand the details of the selected action.

    The details of the selected action are displayed along with information on the entitlements that have been modified during that action.

  3. Click on the Export Active Servers History icon (downward arrow with box) to download a CSV file containing the complete server history for the active or inactive servers.

    • The CSV file is downloaded to the download folder specified in your browser preferences.

    • The server history can be analyzed locally by opening the CSV file within Microsoft Excel.
